The 10 Best Neighborhood Bars in New Hampshire!

The beer is affordable, the atmosphere is comfortable, and you get to gather with your local community. The bartender is friendly and there’s always someone to keep you company at the bar. Neighborhood bars aren’t usually fancy, but they’re friendly, and sometimes at the end of a long day, that’s more important than anything else. Here are our favorites in New Hampshire. 

McGarvey’s, Manchester, NH

Downtown Manchester has a variety of bars, but few are as friendly as McGarvey’s. Stop by for a bite to eat or simply to catch up on the local gossip. You’ll be glad you did.

Daniel Street Tavern, Portsmouth, NH

D Street is a comfortable place for lots of locals. It’s been around for years. Come in for a beer on a hot afternoon or come for a round of drinks at night. The local entertainment makes for an even more communal experience. 

Cork ‘n Keg, Raymond, NH

Bring the family to the Cork ‘n Keg—unless you plan on sitting at the bar. That’s reserved for adults only. The food is hearty, and the locals love coming in for the evening or on weekend afternoons to drink and watch the game on TV.

The Shanty, Portsmouth, NH

The Shanty’s seafood specials and their friendly staff make it among the best neighborhood bars in the state. Locals love showing up after work for a meal and a few beers. They often stop in on game day, too, to watch one of several TVs that are on display inside the small bar.

Billy’s Sports Bar & Grill, Manchester, NH

No matter your favorite sport, it’s likely it will be on TV at Billy’s Sports Bar & Grill. The sports bar fare is hearty and delicious. That, paired with its friendly atmosphere and personable employees, makes Billy’s a no brainer for a second visit. 

Jitto's Super Steak, Portsmouth, NH

Passersby think Jitto’s is solely a sandwich shop, but locals know it’s the bar that keeps people coming back. They do serve a fine steak and cheese sub and their pizzas are pretty darn good too. It’s a great place to catch up with friends or watch the game.

Tandy’s Pub, Concord, NH

Tandy’s Pub serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, but locals know it’s claim to fame comes from its bar. A mainstay in downtown Concord, it features beer and drink specials throughout the week, and occasional dancing on the weekends. Happy hour is when most of the locals hang out here.

Fagin’s Pub, Berlin, NH

Charlie’s Tap House, Hampton, NH

Play bar games, drink, eat and be merry. That’s the feeling inside Lakeview Tavern. Locals love hanging out here and catching up with their neighbors. The bar gets busier when the tourists show up in the summer, but this spot still remains a local hot spot.
