How will you ring in the new year? Will you do so with friends, as a couple or with the whole family? There are lots of fun New Year’s Eve events in the Granite State. Whether it’s at Portsmouth’s wonderful First Night event or snow tubing at Pat’s Peak, here are the best NYE celebrations happening in New Hampshire this year.
First Night Portsmouth starts at sundown on December 31 and finishes with the dawning of the new year. Enjoy live performances, arts and crafts, ice sculptures, and more. Don black tie couture and attend NYE Midnight Masquerade at Wentworth by the Sea in New Castle. The elegant night out includes dinner and dancing in the grand hotel’s ballroom. The best dressed couple will be chosen as the new year is rung in. Tickets are $248 per person.
Laugh your way into the new year at Live Free or Die Laughing at the Sheraton in Portsmouth. Featuring nationally renowned comedians from "Last Comic Standing" and more, laugh to the antics of Kelly MacFarland and Carolyn Plummer. The early show starts at 8:30 and the late show begins at 10:30 p.m. The late show includes a champagne toast at midnight. Is there any better way to ring in the new year than with laughter? Tickets for the early show are $28 and the late show is $38.
A half hour north of Portsmouth, laughter will ring in the new year as well. The Governor’s Inn in Rochester presents their New Year’s Eve Comedy Ball. Tickets are $80, which includes dinner, a comedy show and dancing. Bill Simas is the headlining act. Doors open at 8 p.m., with drinks and hors d’oeuvres beginning shortly thereafter.
Ring in the New Year with the whole family at Pat’s Peak Ski Area. The celebration begins at 6 p.m. Take part in snow tubing, skiing, snowboarding, a comedy show and raffles for great prizes. There will be dancing, food stations, party favors, a champagne toast at midnight and a fireworks display, too. The slopes stay open until 10 p.m., so families can choose which activities are best suited to their own. Ticket prices vary, dependent upon whether or not activity on the slopes will be part of your New Year’s Eve. Check the website for cost options.
For wholesome family fun on New Year’s Eve, head to Santa’s Village in Jefferson to take part in their New Year’s Eve Partybration. Beginning at 4 p.m., families can ride the rides, enjoy food and beverages and dance to music provided by a DJ. Fireworks begin at 8 p.m. This is perfect for families who want to celebrate the New Year, but not stay up until the wee hours—plus, the kids get to have fun, too. Tickets are available online only.

Channel your inner Jay Gatsby and attend the Gatsby New Year’s Eve Party at the Portsmouth Gaslight Co. Doors open at 8 p.m., and the bar stays open until 1:30 a.m. General admission includes passed hors d’oeuvres, party favors, a champagne toast at midnight and a late-night buffet.
