United We Sleep - Homelessness Awareness and Fundraising
If you drive past Nashua Community College after 5pm on September 20th, you'll see their front lawn covered with cardboard boxes. That evening, supporters of United Way of Greater Nashua will be sleeping beside RT 101A to learn about the causes and impacts of homelessness, raising awareness, and raising money to help our community's homeless.
We will have a team of experts from our community on hand to discuss the issues of food insecurity, housing complexity, mental health, human trafficking, and other critical issues. We are also using the event to collect socks for our local shelters and pantries for the winter... one of their most needed items!
Over the past 3 years, more than 200 participants have raised over $200,000 for our Community Impact Fund which supports a network of nonprofits working to lift people out of poverty. This includes supports such as:
- access to dental care
- a focus on high school graduation for at risk teens
- food supports of kids from low income backgrounds
- transitional housing for single moms, dads, and families experiencing homelessness
